Join Davidson College President Carol Quillen; Techstars Entrepreneur-in-Residence, Chris Heivly; Launch LKN; Enventys; and Davidson College’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Initiative on the afternoon of March 22nd for Davidson’s annual pitch competition.
Watch as six alumni- and student-run startups compete for a shot to win $50,000. There will be refreshments, a talk from Chris Heivly, fierce competition, and networking. A happy hour will follow pitches. Although we ask that you register at 3:30 p.m., attendees can come and go as they’d like. Sign up below.
Our entrepreneurship spotlight for this episode is Wolfgang Christian, retired Professor of Physics at Davidson College. Wolfgang speaks on his entrepreneurial journey and offers insight on what entrepreneurs of today need to be successful.
Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship Internship Program
The Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship Internship Program is for students interested in working for entrepreneurial ventures in a variety of fields. Through this program, students are connected with full-time, paid internships with ventures across the world. It is open to all years, including graduating seniors. Davidson College Venture Lab is a start-up incubator designed to accelerate the development of Davidson’s innovators and entrepreneurs through experiential education. It’s is a full-time, immersive, 10-week program suited for all business models (both for-profit and nonprofit). Click here to learn more.
Davidson College Business Bootcamps break down topics like business models, customer development, value propositions, basic legal issues, and other core skills/topics for starting a startup. The Failure Fund is a grant competition that awards Davidson students with between $150-1000 to pursue a creative or innovative idea. The purpose of this scholarship is to fund the creative ideas of Davidson students while empowering them to model the traits of innovators and creative entrepreneurs, mainly by being comfortable with failure.
Venture Lab is Davidson’s startup accelerator for student entrepreneurs. The Venture Lab takes no equity and aims to help early-stage startups achieve significant, sustainable growth.
This a summer program that lasts for an intensive 11 weeks and revolves around weekly meetings every Monday from 9 AM to 12 PM, culminating in a demo day. The Monday meetings allow teams to discuss their problems with each other, check in with advisors, and get feedback from various mentors. There will also be additional workshops and events throughout other weekdays. Teams are expected to work on their projects on a daily basis throughout the duration of the accelerator.
